Shane Warne Spin King Gets Hot Wheels In Sin City Sydney, By Eva Rinaldi
Shane Warne aka 'The Spin King', continues to race ahead of the pack and reinvent himself, be it on Australian or European soil.
He's endorsed video and audio companies, online poker, and now toys (no, not dolls), cars... Hot Wheels cars from Mattel to be exact.
Today he appeared at a press conference in Surry Hills, Sydney, to tell us all about what he sees in Hot Wheels.
On the surface Warne looks to be a pretty good match. He loves his cars (owning a number of real sports cars in his private collection), is known for his fast women (now just one - lucky Liz), who has him in good shape thanks to the "Liz Effect", as Warnie puts it, and who knows what else is in the pipeline. Young men around the world may do well to note that Mr Warne has settled down now with the one lovely lady now and that commitment to the one lass can be a very good thing.
A couple of whispers overheard at today's presser went something like "Doesn't Mattel also do Barbie and Ken dolls (TM)." For the record there was nothing on Ken or Barbie.
The Hot Wheels 'Spin King' has supposed to be a bit of a secret, but we suspect that was all part of the media and marketing plan. You know, make something a secret, so it gets written and talked about. If that's the case, Mattel and Team Warnie have done their jobs well. Warne is understood to have "collaborated" with Mattel's Hot Wheels for about 6 months, and the financial terms of the deal are not being released, at least at this stage. It must be good, since Warne and his management are used to cranking deals with online poker brands and the like, and those don't come cheap.
'The Spin King' signature range designed by Australian sports stars sure looks hot (if your into toy cars).
This is not the virgin car deal for Mr Warne. Last year Warnie was named Lamborghini's Australian ambassador and gifted a $600,000 Murcielago as a "long-term loan car", and a couple of Lambos' were seen racing around East Sydney earlier today, so perhaps he was driving one of them. You can bet Warnie and Liz's kids are doing to have a ball of a time playing with all the toys they will be gifted by Mattel and Hot Wheels.
Warnie's press statements included something along the lines of "I've always has a passion for cars. I used to play with Hot Wheels cars as a kid, so when they offered me the chance to design my own, I jumped at it". Containing his excitement he also shared "I loved every minute of the design process and working with the team at hot Wheels was great fun. The 'Spin King' is a fusion between all of my favorite fast cars and its been great seeing my vision come to life". To Australian press (and public) he had an equally important message: "When Liz and I settle down in Melbourne please respect our privacy and don't throw rocks at our place at 2am in the morning. I've told Liz Melbourne is beautiful".
It was a hot looking brochure and media kit, but sadly no Hot Wheels car in the pack, but Christmas is coming, so here's hoping.
Thanks for the great photos Warnie. Sydney is the quick and the dead, and we did our best, so we're hoping you like them.
Verdict: Shane Warne and Mattel's Hot Wheels gets the green light. They are to hit stores in March 2012, and we're told they are worth the wait. Catch them if you can.

Water for Elephants Sydney premier
Water for Elephants enjoyed its Sydney premier tonight, with the 300m red carpet running down Pitt St Mall.
Reese Witherspoon and her co-star Robert Pattinson (Twilight) were mobbed by thousands of fans and hundreds of media types.
Earlier in the day they did Sydney's famous Luna Park, running with the circus theme.
"I think all I can do is stand back and sort of watch it happen because I'm not used to seeing somebody have so many fans," Witherspoon told the press.
"But he's so gracious about it and he's really understanding that people really take the time to stand and wait for him, so he signs every picture and talks to everybody."
Water for Elephants is based on the bestselling novel by Sara Gruen and directed by Francis Lawrence.
The beautiful love story centres around veterinary student Jacob Jankowski (Pattinson), who joins a circus after his parents are killed in a car accident.
He's soon enough in charge of an elephant named Rosie, which helps bring him closer to the circus's star performer Marlena (Witherspoon).
The film's stars got up close with another elephant at a presser today in Sydney. Siam especially was brought in from Terri Irwin's Australia Zoo for the happening.
Witherspoon said she was delighted to have been given the opportunity to visit Australia again.
"I've been here before but I haven't been for some time," she said.
"It's meant a lot to me that Australian fans have come out and seen my movie so I'm excited to actually come out and meet them and be there."
She said Sydney's famous Bondi Beach was at the top of her list of places to visit.
"Last time I was here I got to go to a koala sanctuary and I got to go to the Gold Coast and Melbourne - it was really fun," she said.
"I've never been to Bondi Beach, so I think that'd be fun to check that out.
"I just heard it's fun. I want to go have a beer at the beach."
Insiders tip the movie will likely net over $50 million and is in line to pick up a number of awards.
A special thank you to the good people at 20th Century Fox for helping make tonight possible for my life and media skills students and our team. Also a big thanks for security who helped us get some great photos with the films posters at the conclusion of the evening. My students had a great experience with all the excitement, and they are not likely to forget tonight in a hurry. The popcorn that some of the circus performers handed out to media and the fans was appreciated also.
Legendary showman and circus promoter, Phineas Taylor Barnum, would have been proud of the show that Fox put on in Sydney tonight.
This film sufficiently demonstrates that life is the most spectacular show on earth, as they say in the film's tag line.
Stay tuned for our great Francis Lawrence video interview and range of great photos with Witherspoon, Pattinson and dozens more celebrities.

Katy Perry does Myer Melbourne; Purr fect warm up for Logies
We're in Melbourne early for the TV Week Logies, and so is Katy Perry, who wowed, teased and entertained thousand of fans at Myer in the Melbourne CBD today.
Not to anyone's surprise there was no sign of husband Russell Brand, but that didn't stop the media or crowd asking, as they are quite the power couple these days.
The 26-year-old performing artist looked sensational and was very accommodating with both fans and media.
We learnt that she just loves Australians easy-going attitude, our weather (thank you Melbourne for the miracle sun and no rain today), Tim Tams, and eskies.
"I love being around all kinds of characters in Australia," Perry told the crowd of thousands, when they finally settled down from a massive 'We want Katy' chant, which must have gone on for at least fifteen minutes.
Some of the crowd rushed to Myer retail departments to snap up both Perry CD's and Purr perfume (which gives an "added bonus" to your man, Katy was quick to point out to us.
The queen of 'Teenage Dream', and soon teenage retail, is struggling with her Aussie lingo, but we give her top marks for effect, attitude and generosity of heart and spirit with her multitudes on fans hanging on every word and move. She got her cosses mixed up with eskies, but that's ok. Katy looked like she might do well to get a bit of sun, so someone needs to tell her where Bondi Beach is.
Perry had the crowd screaming and clamouring for photos and autographs, and as usual, security had a tough job, with most of them doing their job well.
Bourke Street mall came to a standstill, as 1000 or so fans stood behind steel barricades just hoping to catch a glimpse. Four Katy Perry look-a-likes kept the crowd entertained and and teased the press with purr fect poses with the perfume of the hour. Oh, the trams kept running, but slowed considerable, as passengers soon realised what all the fuss was about.
Perry commenced her first Australian tour in two years with shows in Melbourne on Thursday and Friday nights and is the big-name international act for tomorrow's Logie awards at James Packer's Crown Casino.
Her appearance today was actually to flog her new fragrance, Purr, and we estimated at least 500 units were sold. Even a couple of Aussie teen lads bought the Purr, which helped them get a photo, as you might have guessed.
We loved that she answered a journo's probing question about receiving plenty of male attention.
"I'm a big believer in sharing so I like to share myself. I feel like I'm in a relationship with all of you plus my husband. I feel like the people that support me and my music and who come to see my shows are choice people; they have good taste, they're smart, they're funny, they like to have a great time, they like to laugh. And also they're very respectful ... if anyone gets too close I karate chop them."
An unidentified reporter asked Katy if she could ask Russell if she could take him home or something to that effect. She laughed it off and then added he might be able to stay in the granny flat room for a bit. Security and minders swiftly snatched away the mic off the shortish mystery media guy.
It was quite a wait for the American sensation and but all agreed the reward was worth it. Perry said "You guys were making so much noise when I was trying to use the restroom".
What a Purr Fect day in Melbourne today if you made it, and we can't wait for the main course tomorrow at the Logies and follow up shows as her Aussie tour continues.
We loved you Katy, and so did our cameras. We can't wait to show the world our great photos and videos of you. The visuals are purr fect said a Music News Australia spokesperson.
Elle Macpherson addicted to Bryan Ferry love drug
Roxy Music front man and iconic art rock god, Bryan Ferry, had a date with destiny today... old friend and rumoured flame, from the Virgin Music connection - Elle Macpherson aka 'The Body', who was pitching for Richard Branson's Virgin Blue only yesterday.
Ferry arrived fashionably late at Myer, Sydney, to a crowd of hundreds of fans, buying up CD's, books (and photo opportunities). His new release is entitled 'Olympia', and critics are already giving it high marks.
It wasn't long before Elle arrived on the scene and latched onto the Roxy one for dear life ala 'Octopussy' style, if you will. Ferry and Elle are friends with good history, and this evening it showed. Both also share strong friendships with Virgin king of the world, Richard Branson.
I was most impressed with Ferry's warmness towards the audience, the press, and notably myself. Love you're smile Bryan. I also witnessed towards the conclusion of the event that he forgot to sign Elle's poster, but it wasn't long before she chased him down and gave the sharp dressed one her wish. His showing of gentlemanly behavior, saving 'Our Elle', was off the charts. I got the feeling that both stars' fondness towards each other was significantly enhanced, as they both overcome a modest obstacle together. It sure ended on a happy note, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear of the two spending more time together over the next few days, as Elle does "down under", also slipping in a well earned family visit.
Oh, I would like to thank well known and ulti-talented publicist, Angela Ceberano and concert supremo, Andrew McManus, as well as the security at Myer for doing a great job, and also you - the fans for turning up, adding a real buzz to the presser. Photog fans, I'm also pleased to report that my new Canon EF 24-70mm lens from Digital Camera Warehouse also worked a charm.
I can't wait to get my love drug dose tomorrow night at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and word is there are still some 2 for the price of one tickets available as we go to press, so be quick. This concert promises to exceed expectations. Ferry and the band are here for your pleasure, and to make a dollar of course, so if you have a chance to enjoy them in the flesh, do so, even if it may not be quite as intimate experience as 'Our Elle' may enjoy. From Avalon to Australia's country, Roxy's talent knows no bounds.
Michael Bublé Wows The Press In Sydney
The time had finally come for one of the greatest singers of all time, Michael Bublé, to return to our shores, and he didn't disappoint the press gathering.
The setting was the beautiful Quay Restaurant at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks.
This must have been one of hundreds, if not thousands of pressers for Bublé, but for me it was my lucky 3rd, since going pro only a few months ago.
The ultra gifted Canadian has won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards and several Juno Awards. His first album reached the top 10 in both Canada and the UK. He gained tremendous worldwide commercial success and exposure with his 2005 album It's Time, and his 2007 album Call Me Irresponsible was an even greater success, reaching #1 on the Canadian Albums Chart, the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, the Australian ARIA Albums Chart and the European charts. At last count Bublé has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. In 2010, with concerts achieving a levy of $65 million worldwide.
He has a soft spot for Australia, having toured here a massive 8 times before, 4 promo trips and 4 tours. I was impressed to learn that in February 2009 he pledged a donation of A$50,000 to the victims of the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, Australia. I knew he had heart and soul in abundance, and he clearly knows just how blessed he is. It just gives you a warm feeling to know he's reached out to some Aussies going through a tough time in a world seemingly removed from his jet set lifestyle.
The superstar whose hits include versions of Cry Me A River and Georgia On My Mind, will be appearing at Sydney's Acer Arena on February 14th, 15th and 17th 2011.
Commenting on the enjoyment he gets from playing live, the 35-year-old has said: "I just love getting in front of people. It's so important to be in touch with your audience. They've paid their money, I want them to be entertained."
Fans can expect to pay between AU$90 and AU$149.90 for tickets to his shows. Bublé will also perform in Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide during the Australian tour.
A big hug and thank you to you Michael.. I know you will get to read this eventually, and also for your world class team, especially the good folks at Kerry O'Brien publicity.
I think its fair to say that the industry needs more like Bublé.
With Valentines Day sneaking up on us all, taking in a Bublé concert or just buying his 'Crazy Love' release, seems like a mighty fine idea. Rekindle an old romance, or sparking up a new, it seems apparent Bublé's gift will touch many. You can't help but to love this beautiful man, and for me its time to fall back in love all together again. Thank you Michael.
Arthur premier in Sydney, Australia: Russell Brand mania goes wild
Bondi Junction's Westfield - Event Cinema to be precise, was swamped by thousands of fans and dozens of photographers, paparazzi and security guards from 7pm earlier today.
Brand, now frequently billed as the 'world's funniest man', was in fine form and was extremely generous with fans and the press, frequently stopping to chat on his slow walk down the red carpet.
I hear Mr Brand is off the drugs and booze - at least the hard stuff, but he's taking a liking to caffeine. He told press
"I need caffeine. (I keep up) through artificial stimulants that are legally available through hot drinks. I am, one day at a time, still off the booze. I don't have alcohol in my life."
The funnyman is married to Katy Perry, but also on Thursday at the Sydney press conference admitted his love for co star Helen Mirren, and his choice of words indicated they were romantically linked.
Arthur, a remake of the 1981 classic starring Dudley Moore, sees the comedy genius star in the title role - a lovable but pretty hopeless billionaire set to lose all of his inheritance if he doesn't enter into an arranged but loveless marriage.
I loved Russell, as did my camera lens and special needs creative arts students. I would also like to make a big public thank you to Nathan and the team at Paramount Pictures who made tonight possible for my group and I. The act of generosity, warmth and understanding was an outstanding thing to come out of the otherwise often cut throat showbiz industry.
In a touching moment Brand accepted a hand made sketch by a teenage artist and publicly congratulated her on her gift, made jokes about how it might be worth a lot more if something happened, but went on to say to the young lady to stick with the art and that she had a lot to offer the world.
Paramount and Team Brand showed tremendous leadership tonight which many think will be returned to them ten fold. The right mix of fun, ability and the personal touch has been put into the production and promotion, and despite some mixed reviews coming out of the U.S, both Brand and Arthur already have hit written all over them for Australian audiences, and no I'm not being too rich with the accolades. If an actors heart could ever be measured financially, Brand's is that of Billionaire ranking.
Arthur will open to general audiences in Australia on April 21.
Dolly Parton Press Conference In Sydney
Country music legend Dolly Parton has hit Australian soil (as has her now famous bus)... bringing traffic and turning heads in Perth, Sydney, and everywhere else she goes.
The Better Day world tour has hit Australia and today Dolly put on a wonderful press conference in Sydney at the beautiful InterContinental Hotel.
Dolly was so warm and accommodating to media, and worked the room and camera's like a genius. The press kit was more like a showbag, with her new CD, poster, autographed photo, t-shirt and more.
The 65-year-old country singer was last in Australia nearly thirty years ago, with her tour expected to inject tens of millions of dollars via sales, tourism and use of local suppliers into the economy.
The ultra talented singer of hits such as 9 to 5 and Jolene will perform 12 Australian concerts during the last leg of her Better Day World Tour. So far Sydney looks to have the most passionate fans with two concerts booked. Such is her popularity in Sydney Dolly will perform at All Phones Arena (formally Acer Arena) on both the 15th and 29th November. We were tipped off the second Sydney show was organised less than 48 hours ago.
Described as "the original genuine fake", Parton is expected to attract a Queen's welcome from her huge Aussie fan base during her three-week visit.
Decades after finding fame, Parton, 65, still attracts young fans and she has more than a million followers on Twitter.
In her first Australian show in 25 years, the young at heart buxom blonde demonstrated that she still knows how to work a crowd - fans and media.
Sydney is in for a treat with her Better Day World Tour. Did you know Dolly had 25 hits that reached number one? Not many artists can say that. Jolene has to be heard and seen to be believed.
Dolly has a fabulous sense of humour... "You ever picked one of these banjos up that has the back on it? They’re heavy. That's how I built up my chest. Well, that's one of the ways. It was the cheapest way".
Parton said rap was a genre she discovered while working with Queen Latifah on the set of her soon to be released film Joyful Noise.
Sydney audiences can look forward to some of the kind of banter she told her Perth fans.
“She may be the Queen but I’m the white trash princess. I know your boys are mean but don’t mess with the redneck mafia," she rhymed, much to the dismay of those in the audience who were in possession of seniors cards.
Dolly is also a noted philanthropist and actress, however it's was her energetic and warm performance and on stage persona which has resonated with fans throughout her 50-year career that made it easy for fans of all ages to see why Ms Parton draws a crowd.
The girl still has it. You can't miss her, and if you do, just look for her famous bust. Seriously, she's the total package and if you can take time out to see her, do so, on what is likely her last ever tour of Australia.
